Radiant Day Spa offers professional microneedling treatments – a proven way of treating permanent skin blemishes such as acne scars or stretchmarks. Using an FDA approved medical tool called a dermapen, the skincare technician will begin a treatment process that utilizes your own body’s healing collagen to remove and ultimately replace this tissue.
Here are some of the areas that microneedling can treat:
- Acne Scars
- Age Spots (also called “sun spots”)
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Large Pores
- Certain Types of scars
- Stretch Marks
- Reduced Skin Elasticity
- Uneven Skin Tone Conditions
The new skin tissue that begins to repair the “damaged” tissue that the dermapen is creating has far more tone and texture. It’s normal that our skin begins to lose collagen as we age or injure ourselves or even go through normal body phases such as pregnancy or weight change.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling is in the insertion of very fine short needles into the skin for the purpose of triggering the regenerative capabilities of your own body. This has become a popular treatment that is both effective and inexpensive.
This treatment uses a device called a dermapen that is made up of micro-fine needles that range in diameter of .0.5 to 2.5 millimeters. While this can sound daunting, it is a very simple and easy process. You are given a local numbing agent near the treatment area and the needles only pierce skin-deep.
“From microneedling alone, you will look plump, pink and luminous for a couple of weeks. On a short-term basis, it plumps the skin and makes the skin look more radiant from inflammation and very superficial swelling,” Dr. Macrene says.
Microneedling also promises improvement over time. According to a 2008 study, skin treated with four microneedling sessions spaced one month apart produced up to a 400% increase in collagen and elastin six months after completing treatment. An additional recent study 100 test subjects were divided into two groups; one set was treated with minoxidil lotion and the other received minoxidil lotion plus microneedling. After 12 weeks, 82 percent of the microneedling group reported 50 percent improvement versus 4.5 percent of the minoxidil lotion-only group.
This Harvard study explains that “Microneedling is not a quick fix. Changes with microneedling take time, because your body is actually repairing itself and growing new tissue.”
